Description

This Asian Ginger Soy Glazed Cod recipe offers a quick, flavorful seafood dinner perfect for busy weeknights. The tender cod fillets are marinated in a savory blend of soy sauce, fresh ginger, honey, garlic, and sesame oil, then pan-seared to a succulent finish and garnished with green onions and sesame seeds for an authentic Asian-inspired touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 2 cod fillets

Marinade

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Garnish & Cooking

  • 2 green onions (scallions), chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (black or white)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Make the marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, grated ginger, honey or maple syrup, minced garlic, sesame oil, and rice vinegar until well combined to create a flavorful marinade.
  2. Marinate the cod: Place the cod fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Cover and refrigerate for 15 to 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse into the fish.
  3. Heat the skillet: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of olive oil to prevent sticking and aid in cooking.
  4. Cook the cod: Remove the cod from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off, and gently place the fillets into the hot skillet. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is cooked through, basting occasionally with the leftover marinade for extra flavor and moisture.
  5. Garnish and serve: Transfer the cooked cod to a serving plate, drizzle with remaining marinade, then garnish with chopped green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
  6. Serving suggestion: Serve immediately while hot alongside your favorite sides such as steamed rice or sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For best results, do not marinate the fish for more than 30 minutes as the acid in the marinade can start to ‘cook’ the fish and alter texture.
  • You can substitute cod with other white flaky fish such as halibut, haddock, or tilapia.
  • If using honey, warm it slightly for easier mixing into the marinade.
  • Adjust garlic and ginger quantities according to your preference for spiciness and aroma.
  • Ensure the skillet is properly heated before adding fish to get a nice sear and prevent sticking.
