Description

These Caprese Skewers are a fresh, vibrant, and easy-to-make appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and bite-sized mozzarella balls. Perfectly drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze, they’re an elegant, no-cook finger food ideal for parties, gatherings, or a light snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Skewers

  • 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 (12-ounce) container miniature cherry-sized fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves (about 36 leaves)

For Drizzling and Seasoning

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Thread Ingredients: Take one wooden skewer and thread on 1 cherry tomato, followed by 1 fresh basil leaf, then 1 miniature fresh mozzarella ball, another fresh basil leaf, and finally another cherry tomato. Repeat this process for all skewers.
  2. Arrange Skewers: Place the assembled skewers neatly on a serving platter, ensuring they are evenly spaced and visually appealing.
  3. Drizzle and Season: Lightly drizzle the skewers with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze, then sprinkle with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance the flavors.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use fresh, ripe cherry tomatoes and high-quality balsamic glaze.
  • Skewers can be prepared a few hours in advance; cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • To make it gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly, ensure the mozzarella is made without animal-derived rennet if necessary.
  • Adjust seasoning according to taste; you can add a sprinkle of dried oregano for extra flavor if desired.
  • If wooden skewers are not available, consider using decorative cocktail picks.
