Description
Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican holiday drink similar to eggnog but made with coconut milk, cream of coconut, and warm spices, resulting in a rich, creamy, and flavorful beverage often spiked with rum.
Ingredients
Scale
Liquids & Dairy
- 12 oz evaporated milk
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 15 oz cream of coconut
- 13.5 oz coconut milk
Flavorings & Spices
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Ground nutmeg (optional)
Alcohol & Garnishes
- 0.5 to 1 cup white rum (optional)
- Cinnamon sticks (for garnish)
Instructions
- Blend the Base: Add the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, and coconut milk into a blender. Blend on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and well combined, ensuring no lumps remain.
- Add Flavorings and Rum: Pour in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and white rum if desired. Blend again briefly for about 10-15 seconds to evenly incorporate all ingredients.
- Chill the Mixture: Transfer the blended mixture into a pitcher or sealable bottles. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow flavors to meld and the drink to chill thoroughly.
- Serve and Garnish: Before serving, shake the container well to remix the ingredients. Pour into small glasses and garnish each serving with a cinnamon stick and a light sprinkle of ground nutmeg or cinnamon to enhance aroma and presentation.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the white rum.
- Coquito tastes best after chilling overnight to let the flavors meld fully.
- You can adjust the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to suit your taste preference.
- Shake well before serving as the ingredients may separate slightly during refrigeration.
- Store leftover coquito in sealed bottles in the refrigerator for up to one week.
