Description

These Crispy Halloumi Fries are a quick and delicious snack that features golden, perfectly fried strips of halloumi cheese coated in a flavorful spiced flour mix. Ideal for appetizer or party snacks, they deliver a satisfying crunch and a burst of Mediterranean-inspired flavor, especially when paired with sweet chili sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese

  • 250 grams Halloumi Cheese, cut into strips

Coating

  • 1/2 cup Plain/All Purpose Flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika (smoked paprika preferred)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin (or a pinch of oregano as substitute)

Frying

  • 4 tablespoons Olive Oil

Serving

  • Sweet Chilli Sauce (optional but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Halloumi: Begin by cutting the halloumi cheese into even strips approximately 1.5 cm thick to ensure even cooking.
  2. Mix the Coating: On a flat plate, combine the plain flour, paprika, and cumin. Stir or whisk together until evenly mixed for a well-seasoned coating.
  3. Heat the Oil: Pour enough olive oil into a frying pan to cover the bottom and heat over medium heat until the oil shimmers, indicating it’s ready for frying.
  4. Coat the Halloumi: Dredge the halloumi strips in the spice-flour mixture, ensuring each strip is coated evenly for a crispy exterior.
  5. Fry the Halloumi Fries: Fry half of the coated halloumi strips in the heated oil, cooking each side until golden brown, and then carefully turn to cook the other side. Repeat with the remaining strips.
  6. Serve: Arrange the crispy halloumi fries on a serving platter and accompany with sweet chili sauce for dipping to enhance the flavor.

Notes

  • Use smoked paprika for a richer, smokier flavor.
  • Halloumi fries are best served immediately for optimal crispiness.
  • Adjust the spice mix according to taste; oregano can replace cumin for a different herbaceous note.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to prevent the fries from becoming greasy.
  • Can be made gluten-free by using gluten-free all-purpose flour.
  • Sweet chili sauce adds a sweet and spicy contrast but can be substituted with your favorite dips.
