Description
This Crock Pot BBQ Chicken recipe offers a simple and flavorful way to prepare tender, juicy chicken breasts slow-cooked in a tangy barbecue sauce mixture. Perfect for a hands-off meal, it can be served whole or shredded and used in a variety of dishes like sandwiches, pizzas, or salads.
Ingredients
Scale
Chicken
- 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Sauce
- 1 1/4 cups barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ Sauce recommended)
- 1/4 cup Zesty Italian dressing
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
Instructions
- Prepare the crock pot: Spray the inside of a large crock pot (7 quart recommended) with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides, then arrange them in the bottom of the crock pot evenly.
- Mix the sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the barbecue sauce, Zesty Italian dressing, light brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic. Stir well until the mixture is thoroughly blended.
- Cook the chicken: Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the chicken breasts in the crock pot. Cover with the lid and cook on High heat for 3 to 4 hours or on Low heat for 5 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
- Serve: Once cooked, serve the chicken breasts whole, or shred them using two forks. Enjoy as a main dish, or use the shredded chicken on hamburger buns, pizzas, salads, or your favorite dishes.
Notes
- For best results, use a 7-quart crock pot to ensure even cooking and sufficient space for the sauce.
- The dish is versatile and can be served in multiple ways – whole, shredded, or as a topping.
- If shredding, allow the chicken to cool slightly for easier handling.
- Adjust seasoning by adding salt and pepper according to taste before cooking.
- Storing leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator will keep the BBQ chicken fresh for up to 3 days.
