Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 packet Lipton French Onion Soup Mix
- ½ cup water (or beef broth)
- 2–3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
- ½ teaspoon Lawry’s Garlic Salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed to avoid a greasy sauce.
- Add Onion: Add the diced onion directly to the skillet with the browned beef.
- Sauté Onion: Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring often, until the onion begins to soften and turn translucent, releasing its sweetness.
- Add Soup Mix: Sprinkle the Lipton French Onion Soup Mix evenly over the beef and onion.
- Add Liquids and BBQ Sauce: Pour in the water (or beef broth) and BBQ sauce, stirring well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
- Season Sauce: Season with Lawry’s Garlic Salt, garlic powder, and black pepper according to taste.
- Simmer Sauce: Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and flavors meld beautifully.
- Taste and Adjust: Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if needed to suit your preference.
- Serve: Serve the hot French Onion Meat Sauce over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, or toast for a hearty meal.
Notes
- You can substitute the water with beef broth for a richer flavor.
- Adjust BBQ sauce quantity based on desired sweetness and tang.
- This sauce freezes well—store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
- For a lower fat version, use lean ground beef or ground turkey.
- Ensure to drain excess fat after browning the meat to prevent a greasy sauce.
