Description

Pierogi Lasagna is a delightful fusion dish combining the comforting layers of traditional lasagna with the unique texture and flavor of Polish pierogi. This easy-to-make recipe features layers of boiled pierogi, rich marinara sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses baked to bubbly perfection. It’s a perfect hearty meal for family dinners or when craving a comforting twist on classic lasagna.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 12 pierogi
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the dish evenly.
  2. Layer Marinara Sauce: Spread a layer of marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of a baking dish to prevent sticking and add flavor.
  3. Add Pierogi Layer: Place a layer of pierogi on top of the marinara sauce, arranging them side by side to cover the surface.
  4. Spread Ricotta Cheese: Evenly spread half of the ricotta cheese over the pierogi layer to add creaminess and binding.
  5. Sprinkle Cheeses: Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese over the ricotta for rich, melty texture and flavor.
  6. Repeat Layers: Repeat the layering process with remaining pierogi, marinara sauce, ricotta, and cheeses, finishing with sauce and cheeses on top.
  7. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes to heat through and meld flavors.
  8. Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Cool Before Serving: Let the lasagna cool for 5 minutes to set and make serving easier.

Notes

  • You can boil the pierogi before layering if using frozen, according to package instructions, for best texture.
  • Feel free to add cooked spinach or sautéed mushrooms for extra vegetable layers.
  • Adjust the seasoning of garlic, onion powder, basil, salt, and pepper to your taste preference.
  • For a crispier top, broil the lasagna for 2–3 minutes after baking uncovered, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  • This dish can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated before baking to deepen the flavors.
