Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
Garlic Butter Topping
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- Additional melted butter for brushing (approximately 2 tablespoons)
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make Dough: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough starts to form, then knead it for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough is rising.
- Shape Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide and shape the dough into individual dinner rolls and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until puffed up.
- Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the tops turn golden brown.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: While the rolls bake, mix melted butter with minced garlic and chopped parsley in a small bowl.
- Brush Rolls: As soon as the rolls come out of the oven and are still warm, brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture to infuse them with flavor.
- Serve: Serve the garlic butter dinner rolls warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use warm water (around 110°F or 43°C) to properly activate the yeast but avoid water that is too hot or it may kill the yeast.
- For a softer crust, place a small oven-safe dish of water in the oven during baking to create steam.
- These rolls freeze well; cool completely before freezing and reheat by warming in the oven wrapped in foil.
- You can substitute fresh parsley with dried parsley if fresh is unavailable, but fresh will provide a brighter flavor.
- For a dairy-free version, replace milk and butter with plant-based alternatives.
