Scale
Pork Chops and Seasoning
- 4 pork chops
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup butter (divided)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
Cheesy Potato Bake
- 4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the potato and pork chop dish.
- Season Pork Chops: Season both sides of the pork chops generously with salt and pepper to enhance their flavor.
- Melt Butter & Cook Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, which infuses the butter with garlic flavor.
- Sear Pork Chops: Place the seasoned pork chops in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until nicely browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside while you prepare the potatoes.
- Prepare Herb Butter Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining 1/4 cup of butter with thyme, rosemary, and a pinch of salt and pepper, mixing thoroughly.
- Layer Potatoes: Grease a baking dish and layer the thinly sliced potatoes evenly on the bottom.
- Add Herb Butter to Potatoes: Pour the herb butter mixture over the layered potatoes, making sure all slices are coated well for flavor.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to soften the potatoes.
- Add Cheeses and Cream: Remove the foil from the baking dish, sprinkle shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan cheese over the potatoes, and then pour the heavy cream evenly on top.
- Assemble and Bake: Place the seared pork chops on top of the cheesy potatoes, and bake uncovered for an additional 25-30 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the pork chops are fully cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from oven and serve the garlic butter pork chops with cheesy potato bake hot for a delicious and comforting meal.
Notes
- For best results, use medium-starch potatoes like Yukon Gold or Russets for the potato bake.
- You can substitute the heavy cream with half-and-half for a lighter version, though the bake may be less creamy.
- Let the pork chops rest for a few minutes after baking to retain juices before serving.
- Fresh herbs can be substituted with dried herbs if fresh are not available.
- Ensure the pork chops reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) for safe consumption.
